Toronto - April 1, 2025 - Beer Canada applauds Pierre Poilievre’s public commitment to eliminate undemocratic annual automatic beer tax increases and roll back Trudeau-era beer taxes to 2017 levels. For beer alone, this measure will provide an estimated $100 million in critical savings to beer consumers, hospitality venues and Canadian brewers.
We call on the Leaders of all other federal parties to commit to providing real, substantive across the board beer tax relief to safeguard the livelihood of the 149,000 Canadian families working across beer’s value added supply chain, from barley farmers, to truckers, retailers and servers.
Canada has the highest beer taxes amongst all G7 countries, and annual beer tax hikes have imposed real harm, reducing investments, slowed growth and cost Canadian jobs.
We are facing a near unprecedented level economic uncertainty in the face of ongoing unjustified tariffs threats, and Canadian governments must do all in their power to support Canadian businesses and workers by lowering, not raising, taxes.
