July 30, 2025, Toronto, ON— As the world raises a pint to celebrate International Beer Day on August 1st, Beer Canada is proud to recognize beer’s cultural and social significance, as well its powerful contribution to the global and Canadian economies.
Beer is more than just a beverage. It is a local industry that spans the globe and supports millions of jobs, promotes local agriculture, fuels hospitality sectors, and contributes billions in economic activity in communities large and small, rural and urban worldwide. According to the World Brewing Alliance, the beer sector pours over $878 billion annually into the global economy and supports over 33 million jobs across agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, and hospitality.
Here at home, the impact is even more significant. In Canada, the beer sector is one of the most important value-added agri-food industries in the country. It supports over 149,000 Canadian jobs, contributes $13.6 billion to GDP, and acts as a social hub for local communities. Today in Canada nearly 50% of the price of beer are federal and provincial taxes, the highest consumer beer tax load in any G7 country.
“Beer is inherently local. It is most often brewed close to where it is sold and consumed. But beer is also part of a global brewing community that supports jobs and economic activity in countries around the world. We’re proud that Canadian beer represents so much for so many both here at home and on the global stage as a positive symbol of the true north strong and free” said CJ Hélie, President of Beer Canada.
As we prepare to celebrate International Beer Day, Beer Canada also reminds Canadians that Canadian Beer Day 2025, our country’s annual national celebration of our own beer is on October 8th, the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. This year’s theme, “A Beverage Like No Other,” places a spotlight the craftsmanship, community, social wellbeing and economic value that defines Canadian beer. 88% of all the beer Canadians chose to drink are made here.
Celebrate International Beer Day with a locally brewed alcoholic or non-alcoholic beer and show your pride in Canada’s place in the world.
Cheers to International Beer Day!
